How to use Vlingo

You can speak to Vlingo by clicking on the Vlingo Icon, by long-pressing the search button on your Android and selecting Vlingo, or by using shortcuts found in our 4 widgets, which can be added to your device's home screen.  Please note that with th 3.3 version release we have also added an InCar shortcut.

To add a Vlingo widget to your home screen:

  1. Long-press on empty space in your home screen. 
  2. Select Android widgets.
  3. Scroll down to and select one of our four widgets: Vlingo, Vlingo (control), Vlingo (safereader), or Vlingo (small).

OR

  1. From your home screen, press the menu key. 
  2. Select Add.
  3. Select Android widgets.
  4. Scroll down to and select one of our four widgets: Vlingo, Vlingo (control), Vlingo (safereader), or Vlingo (small).

 To add the Vlingo InCar shortcut, repeat either of the above procedures, but after Step 2, select Shortcuts > Vlingo InCar.

 If you have set Vlingo as the default Voice Recognizer

You can enable your keyboard's microphone to have Vlingo use your voice to add text virtually anywhere you'd normally type:

  1. Place the Android cursor anywhere you normally would type text.
  2. Open the Keyboard and click on the Microphone icon and speak.
  3. Vlingo will interpret what you spoke and place it on the screen.

 How to set Vlingo as the default Voice Recognizer

  1. Open your device's Settings.
  2. Select Voice input & output.
  3. Select Voice recognizer and select Vlingo.

 For quick and easy help on using Vlingo

  1. Click on the Vlingo icon.
  2. From here, you can select any of the categories from the Vlingo application home screen (i.e Send Messages, Call Someone, Find Restaurants, etc.) to see more examples, or press the menu key and select Help.
  3. As one example, to create an email, try speaking something like "Send email to Bob Smith, subject I'm in a meeting, message Call me in fifteen minutes".
